Job Summary:
Responsible for the management, supervision and assisting with technical oversight of Converting Operations production facility; multi-shift operations. Converting Operations includes reclose packaging production, pouching operations, and zipper application production.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities: (includes, but not limited to)
Manufacturing Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain efficient workflow through the department
- Ensure adequate supply of materials for the department
- Maintain the accuracy and documentation of production reporting
- Oversee and direct daily activities of Department
- Ensure adequate and effective employee training
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Oversee department manning requirements including vacation planning and coverage
Technical/Quality Responsibilities
- Ensure achievement of quality, production, productivity, and safety goals for department
- Assist with the Technical Department on customer or machine tooling
- Perform applicable quality control testing and enter data into the database
- Coordinate with the Technical Department to produce trial/product development materials and specifications
- Responsible for overseeing and championing all food safety/SQF compliance for the facility; SOP’s, pre-operational checklists, audits, and recalls (mock or actual)
- Project management, including, selection, installation, and startup of all major department equipment purchases
- Identify, recommend, and implement equipment, process, and procedural improvements
- Must comply with all general Company-wide standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and any job or department specific SOP’s.
- SOP’s may cover the areas of (but are not limited to)
- Employee Health and Safety
- SQF (Safe Quality Food packager) and GMP (good manufacturing procedures) focused on eliminating contaminates in all packaging manufactured.
- SGP (Sustainable Green Printer) environmental regulatory procedures and SOP’s
- SOP’s may cover the areas of (but are not limited to)
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Overseeing and coordinating activities of shift personnel including Shift Supervisors
- Conduct employee evaluations
- Direct staff personal development
- Oversee disciplinary action, as required
- Ability to deal with issues and situations objectively and fairly based on Company policies and guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Management experience in a flexible packaging operation, focused on converting operations (Pouch, Reclose, etc.)
- Basic mechanical skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to determine P&L results for specific departments and operations from manufacturing statistics and data.
- Good communication skills.
- Good computer skills, working with Microsoft products and manufacturing ERP systems.
- Knowledge of web handling processes required
- Experience working with or leading manufacturing teams
- Excellent PC skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and solid presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to define and solve problems dealing with many variables and limited standards and time.
- Self-starter with initiative to anticipate what needs to be done
- Manage projects and programs and be able to obtain buy in from all levels of the organization to implement programs
- SQF Certification a plus
- Frequent standing and sitting, as well as occasional crawling, stooping, kneeling, reaching with arms, & crouching will be required to perform the duties of this position.
- Infrequent lifting of 50 lbs. or less.
- May be required work at heights or in confined spaces for short periods of time during equipment inspections and modifications.
Working Conditions: (travel, working hours, any unusual environmental conditions, protective wear required, etc.
- Infrequent travel may be required for maintaining certifications, seminars, training sessions, vendor site visits, etc.
- Exposure to chemicals (inks, solvents), moving mechanical parts, extended noise, etc. may require the use of personal protective equipment, earplugs, safety glasses, gloves, etc.
