Job Summary:
Position oversees all activities of a Flexible Packaging Department. Our York facility has Flexible Printing, Extrusion, Lamination, Slitting, and Converting. The Department Manager performs duties through direct supervision and collaboration with the department managers, supervisors, and employees.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily activities.
- Responsible for coordinating and collaborating in the production process with other departments.
- Track department production statistics on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis and report these to the Management Team and the Operations Team at monthly and bi-annual meetings.
- Oversee the administration of all policies and procedures set forth by the company.
- Ensure a strong team environment with good communication skills between shifts and departments.
- Be a champion for all safety rules and regulations set forth by the company by strictly adhering to all safety policies and enforcing the same with direct reports and hourly workforce.
- Overall responsibility for pay changes, performance evaluation, discipline, vacation scheduling for the Finishing department.
- At times, must be able to step in and fill in for Shift Supervisors.
- Complete all assigned tasks promptly and efficiently.
- Sits as a member of the Safety Committee.
- Must comply with, and ensure compliance of department personnel with, all general Company-wide standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and any job or department specific SOP’s.
- SOP’s may cover the areas of (but are not limited to)
- Employee Health and Safety
- SQF (Safe Quality Food packager) and GMP (good manufacturing procedures) focused on eliminating contaminates in all packaging manufactured.
- SGP (Sustainable Green Printer) environmental regulatory procedures and SOP’s.
- SOP’s may cover the areas of (but are not limited to)
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises hourly and salaried employees spanning several shifts.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of management experience in a flexible packaging operation operations (Extrusion, Lamination, Slitting, etc.).
- Basic mechanical skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to determine P&L results for specific departments and operations from manufacturing statistics and data.
- Good communication skills.
- Good computer skills, working with Microsoft products and manufacturing ERP systems.
Other knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality of information to Company and Federal standards.
- Must be able to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and be able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Must be dependable and work within Company conduct standards; consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance.
Physical Demands: (lifting X lbs., working at heights or underground, standing for long periods, etc.)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Able to work extended hours as work activities demand.
- Ability to work on concrete floors for the mandated hours.
- Ability to use office equipment effectively; PC, keyboard, mouse, phone, copier, printer etc
Working Conditions: (travel, working hours, any unusual environmental conditions, protective wear required, etc.)
- Ability to work in a hot or cold environment.
- Work around solvents, ink, and adhesives used in the manufacturing process.
- Must be able to wear all necessary PPE for all phases of the job.
